In early days of plumbing every one used galvanized water pipes in homes. Galvanized pipes are made of iron with a thin coating of zinc. Galvanized pipes are quite a lot better than what we had prior to the galvanizing became popular, however plumbing and tubing materials made from galvanized pipes eventually lose the thin zinc coating due to frictions and impact of foreign objects such as sand grains. When this happens the iron begins to get oxidized and develop what is known as iron bacteria, which tends to produce a brownish slime sometimes discoloring the clothing. Other symptoms develop due to plaques that limits the flow of water in the pipes and possible leaks from the eroded sections of the pipes.
Here is a simple test:
• Do you experience Low Water Pressure?
• Do you get Yellow or Rust Colored Water?
• Do you get Scalded in the Shower when someone flushes a toilet, uses a sink or turns on the washing machine?
• Have you had leaks in your plumbing?
• Do you have Slab Leaks (leaks found inside or underneath the concrete foundation or the house’s floor)?
If you said “Yes” to any of those questions, then your galvanized pipes are surely starting to erode.
If you want to prevent any of those instances from happening, then the best option would be repiping.

Repiping the suspected plumbing with copper pipes or pex will prevent or remedy these problems.

repiping also improves the water pressure and quality.
